Plumbing and Piping Detailer
Job Summary: The Plumbing & Piping Detailer produces working drawings for coordination and fabrication that will be used in the field for installation and presented to the contractor as final as-built drawings for sign-off. The detailer must be able to adapt to changes from engineers and architects and stay up to date with the most current changes on the project, must be able to fully coordinate with all architectural, structural elements and other trades. The Detailer must be able to foresee what might be needed on projects where drawings are incomplete, such as, pre-construction and design assist projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Produces fully coordinated shop drawings that are accurate, dimensioned, and clearly understood by field personnel and shop foreman
Produces spooled drawings for pre-fabrication process as directed
Plots shop drawings that meet the standard of the department
Follows all CAD standards set forth by Department Manager
Provides necessary documents to Project Managers and Estimators relating to contract changes, equipment buyouts and change orders as requested
Assists Project Managers with fixtures and equipment as required for contracts, as requested
Participates in the review of customer or contractual documentation, including but not limited to proposals, to identify and ensure fulfillment of requirements, as requested
Provides support of customers’ quality concerns to facilitate responsiveness
Actively participates on projects with Job Supervisors, Foreman, and Project Managers
Attends department progress meetings and kickoff meeting
Attends coordination meetings with general contractor in a professional manner representing Peterson’s code of excellence
Reviews & checks contract documents for accuracy
Writes Request for Information (RFIs) and document on shop drawings per detailing department standards
Participates in design assist and pre-construction projects and employs best practices as it relates to cost and efficiency, while making sure all required building codes are followed in the interest of the company
Performs other duties as assigned
Essential Qualifications:
High School Diploma (or equivalent)
Five or more years’ experience designing plumbing and piping systems
Ability to size and or design portions of a plumbing/mechanical systems, as needed
Ability to find job specific information related to architectural features, structural elements, specifications, submittal information, fixture cut sheets, and current construction standards
Working knowledge of design line and operational procedures necessary to implement the process department wide
Clear understanding and working knowledge of contract documents produced by design team
Professional appearance and demeanor
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to meet deadlines based on job schedule
Ability to change as more efficient methods developed within the division
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office suite
Basic to intermediate skills with Blue Beam software
Full working knowledge of AutoDesk Fabrication and Navis Works
Possesses full working knowledge of all codes pertaining to specific mechanical discipline being detailed
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Intermediate to advance knowledge of AutoDesk Fabrication database management and Revit
Hands-on installation experience within commercial, government, institutional, or industrial projects in plumbing and piping
MEP Database knowledge and understanding
Associate degree in related field or five-year apprenticeship in trade
Self-starter, self-motivated with ability to take lead in coordinating with other disciplines
Capable of working as a team as well as on an individual basis
ADA Specifications:
Position requires sitting for prolonged periods and occasional standing and walking. Manual dexterity required for computer work. There is occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Office work environment with a moderate noise level. Reasonable accommodations will be made available.
